step 2\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" data-lazy-srcset=\"https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6676.jpg 650w, https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6676-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6676-400x300.jpg 400w\" data-lazy-sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6676.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>I precut and predrilled all of my wood pieces for the frame of the side table before I started assembling. \u00a0I also found it much easier to sand all of the pieces down before I assembled it. \u00a0Set the table legs upside down on a smooth, flat surface to begin the assembly. \u00a0If your surface isn\u2019t flat, you\u2019ll know it when you flip your table over and you end up with a rocking horse;) \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mark 1\/2\u2033 in from the outside edges of the legs. \u00a0This is where you\u2019ll line up the apron pieces. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6452\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20650%20488'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" alt=\"diy side table - step 5\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" data-lazy-srcset=\"https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6685.jpg 650w, https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6685-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6685-400x300.jpg 400w\" data-lazy-sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6685.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>To measure the X Pieces, set a 1\u00d72 against the side of the table and make a mark on the inside face of the board to determine the angle and the length of the piece. \u00a0Figure out the angle on your miter saw by lining up the blade with the pencil mark. \u00a0In this case, the angles were about 45 degrees. \u00a0Use the first piece you cut as a template for the 7 remaining pieces, making sure to dry fit everything for a proper fit. \u00a0For the other portion of the X, place one of the long pieces perpendicular to the first piece. \u00a0Mark the inside face in the center to determine the length and angle of the cuts. \u00a0In this case, the angle was approximately 3 degrees.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6455\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20650%20650'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" alt=\"diy side table - step 7\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" data-lazy-srcset=\"https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6706.jpg 650w, https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6706-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6706-400x300.jpg 400w\" data-lazy-sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6706.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>When drilling holes in the X pieces, set the stop collar on the drill bit to 3\/4\u2033 thickness. \u00a0Set the Kreg Jig to 1\u2033 thickness to drill the 45 degree angles. \u00a0For the 3 degree angles, set the thickness at 3\/4\u2033.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6457\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20488%20650'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" alt=\"diy side table - step 8\" width=\"488\" height=\"650\" data-lazy-srcset=\"https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6707.jpg 488w, https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6707-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6707-400x533.jpg 400w\" data-lazy-sizes=\"(max-width: 488px) 100vw, 488px\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6707.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>For the Xs, you\u2019ll want to use a small right angle driver or offset adapter. \u00a0Fully attach the long portion of the X with 1 1\/4\u2033 pocket screws. \u00a0For the smaller portions, partially drive in all of the screws to hold them into place and then alternate between upper and lower portions to drive the screws in fully.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6458\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20650%20488'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" alt=\"diy side table - layering stains\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" data-lazy-srcset=\"https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6795.jpg 650w, https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6795-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6795-400x300.jpg 400w\" data-lazy-sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/addicted2diy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/edited-6795.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>To finish off the side table, I brushed on a coat of wood conditioner and let it soak in for about 15 minutes. \u00a0I then layered stain colors, starting with Golden Oak, Weathered Oak, then a thin layer of Special Walnut. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6461\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20488%20650'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" alt=\"diy side table -
